A British soldier and his family photographed in Ilkley

A real photographic postcard || Although we do not know the identities of the family pictured on the front of this real photographic postcard, the text in the bottom right-hand corner tells us that they were photographed in Bontoft’s studio in Ilkley (then in the West Riding of Yorkshire). The British army sergeant is pictured looking down at the baby that his wife is holding; his visible shoulder title is illegible. His wife is wearing an ornate hat and a fur scarf, the baby’s long white gown suggests that the photograph commemorates his or her christening. || || Front || Photograph || A British soldier's family
A British soldier and his family photographed in Hitching

A real photographic postcard || At the centre of this family portrait is a solemn-looking girl standing alongside her mother, pictured in profile, and soldier–father, the details of whose cap badge are indistinct. Stamped across the bottom of the photograph is the name of the studio that produced it as a real photographic postcard: ‘A. E. Lupton / 14 Nightingale Road / Hitchin in Hertfordshire’. || || 51.94920999999999,-0.2834139999999934 || Photograph || Front || A photograph of a British soldier and his family
