Science Run – Europeana Transcribe

Europeana is celebrating the theme of Science this year through editorials and creative events. Europeana Transcribe offers you a chance to discover a diverse range of scientific manuscripts, letters and images throughout history over the period of 3 months this summer, starting from June 14th.

In this special Run we’ve featured a number of scientific letters, research documents and manuscripts to transcribe, enrich and describe. Our selection includes correspondence and works of the naturalists Alexander von Humboldt and Carl Friedrich Kielmeyer, physicists Heinrich Wilhelm Dove and Marian Smoluchowski, astronomers Heinrich Schwabe and Jan Kanty Steczkowski, and many other notable scientists.

On the occasion of Science activities at Europeana, editorials, such as Women in Science activity kit, The world’s first parachuting family and Moss highlight how science can be used creatively and that under the science umbrella lie inventions, nature, physics, art and many more topics and fields .

Europeana will also be hosting a Science-themed writing workshop on 9 September 2026. The annual GIF IT UP challenge throughout October will have a special category on Science.
