AI4Culture Workshop

New Workshop announcement

This workshop will be held on 9 October 2024 from 14:00 to 17:00 CET. Co-organised with CrossLang, Austrian Institute of Technology, and Facts&Files, it focuses on the use of OCR tools. Participants will learn how to upload transcriptions to a repository and display them on the AI4Culture platform. The workshop will also include practical exercises to guide attendees through the process of translating their transcriptions, making them accessible in multiple languages.

Stories of the Month

The winner of our longest-running competition is announced

The online run "Stories of the Month", which started in July 2021, has come to an end! We would like to thank all participants. Our champion transcriber Wolfgang Dekeyser took first place, transcribing 130,767 characters, adding 349 Enrichments and running 731 miles. Congratulations to Wolfgang and runners-up Sophie Jouglard and Torsten Salzer! All stories from the run will remain available for transcription indefinitely. However, achievements will now only be added to your personal statistics and Europeana Transcribe's overall progress.

AVI 2024 Conference

Transcribathon in Arenzano

Sergiu Gordea (AIT) and Frank Drauschke (Facts & Files) presented Transcribathon at the 17th International ACM Conference on Advanced Visual Interfaces in Arenzano (Genoa), Italy (https://avi2024.dibris.unige.it), which was attended by leading researchers of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) from all over the world.

On 6 June 2024, Frank Drauschke hosted Facts & Files webinar #3, where he presented the features and functionality of the Transcribathon platform and demonstrated how Cultural Heritage Institutions (CHIs) can engage their audiences and work together to transcribe and enrich historical documents from Europeana. The webinar series is inspired by the 25th anniversary of Facts & Files and provides an insight into the projects and work. Women's History Month: Run Results

First Women's History Run on Transcribathon

This March, we have introduced our first Women's History Run with documents from lesser known women scientists, writers, activists, and more. The Run concluded with a win for our multiple champion Wolfgang Dekeyser, who transcribed 158,188 Characters in this campaign. Congratulations to our winner and runners-up!

19th Century Unlocked!

Results of the run

The 19th Century Run successfully concluded, and the results are in. In the first place is Wolfgang Dekeyser with 1270 miles run, in the second place is Chris S with 848 miles, and in the third place is Maciej Rajski with 319 miles. Our congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to all participants!

19th Century Run

Relive the 19th century

Starting from 15 December, you will have a chance to take part in our new international competition with prizes and awards. Transcribe, enrich and annotate stories from our 19th Century collection to enter. Documents are ranging from personal diaries and correspondence to official archival material and scientific papers written by composers, writers, scientists, politicians of the 19th century.

Zagreb Run Winners

The results of Zagreb Transcribathon are in!

During five days of competition in Zagreb, over 350000 characters have been transcribed and over 400 items edited. 1st place for most characters transcribed went to Eva Vitković. On the 1st place for enrichments is Marijeta Čubrić. Tena Matićević gets the first place for the best presentation. Congratulations to all winners and big thanks to all participants!

Transcribathon Zagreb

Run to transcribe Croatian historical documents!

In preparation for Transcribathon run in Zagreb, taking place from November 7th to 11th, our platform has been enriched with hundreds of documents from the State Archives in Zagreb. Competitors will have a chance to transcribe documents from the 19th and early 20th centuries and explore the collections of Ivan Ulčnik and Dragutin Hirc.
