A soldier and his family photographed in Bristol

1 Item

A real photographic postcard || Partially stamped on the back of this real photographic postcard is the name and address of the photographic studio that produced it: ‘Modern Photo Co., 57, Castle St, Bristol’. On the front, a little girl is pictured standing next to her mother. Her soldier–father stands alongside them. He has two overseas service stripes on his lower right-hand sleeve (which dates this photograph to 1918), signifying that he had served in the army for two years overseas. || || A photograph of a British soldier and his family || Front || Photograph || Bristol

A British soldier and his family photographed in Hull

1 Item

A slightly out-of-focus baby takes centre stage in this photograph, balancing on his mother’s thigh, with a teddy bear on the bench beside him; a teething ring dangles from his mother’s left hand. Flanking them are a young woman wearing a wedding and engagement ring, and a soldier, perhaps the baby’s father. His cap badge appears to be that of the Duke of Cambridge’s Own (Middlesex Regiment). The printed information on the reverse tells us that the photographic studio the family visited was that of ‘OVERTON, Photographer, 85 Prospect Street, Hull. 9711’. A message has been written in black ink across the back: ‘Sonny / 8 months 2 weeks / Fondest Love from Ray & Sucker ?’. || A real photographic postcard || || A photograph of a British soldier and his family in Hull || Photograph || 53.7456709,-0.3367412999999715

A British soldier and his family photographed in Stratford.

1 Item

A real photographic postcard || A small child visited the studio of ‘Stanley Bros’, at ‘102 Leystonestone Road’ (these details have been stamped across the bottom right-hand corner), in order to be photographed with his parents (we are assuming that the child pictured is a little boy). His mother – wedding ring, as well as a bracelet, prominent on her right hand – holds his left hand; standing behind him is his soldier–father, wearing a bandolier and white lanyard. The photographers’ address corresponds to a present-day one in Stratford, east London. || || Photograph || 51.5501741,-0.003371000000015556 || A photograph of a British soldier and his family
