This is a Russian medal ranging from 1914-1915 to commemorate the Allies. On the front is a detailed design with a crown at the top and images with names of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, shown in Russian Cyrillic under his image as ‘ИМ НИКОЛАЙ II, President Poincaire of France, as ‘През ПУАНКАР’ in Russian, King George of Great Britain, as ‘Кор ГЕОРГЙ’ in Russian, and King Peter I of Serbia, shown as ‘Кор ПЕТРЪ I’ in Russian. Beneath them is are cannons, a rifle, and a shell. Below this is a central motif with four figures, presumably representing the armies of the four Allies, and the Russian text ‘СОЮЗНИКИ 1914’, which translates as ‘Allies 1914’. The overall design is very ornate. On the reverse is the Russian text ‘ПАМЯТЬ О ВЕЛИКОЙ ЕВРОПЕЙСКОИ ВОЙНЪ 1914 – 1915’, which translates as ‘In memory of the Great European War 1914 – 1915’. Beneath this, in a box, are the engraver’s details. The country of manufacture ‘AMERICA is in plain English, and the maker’s name is give in Russian Cyrillc as ‘Х БЪЛОУСЪ’, which might transliterate to something like ‘H. Blous’, or ‘H. Belous’, and might possibly have an ‘e’ at the end of the name. The ‘N.Y.’ is, as with the country of manufacture, not in Cyrillic, and represents New York.

This is a US-made medal commemorating the Allies of the First World War. The text reads, at the top ‘DO RIGHT’, left bottom ‘AND FEAR’, right bottom ‘NO MAN’. It is a circular medal with an eagle and on top of which is a shield. There is national symbolism throughout: the eagle represents the United States and, on the left-side of shield itself, the ship represents Great Britain, the cockerel represents France, the Cross of Savoy represents Italy, and the lion’s head represents Montenegro. On the right-side of the shield, the bear represents Russia, the lion rampant represents Belgium, the four fire-steels, or four C’s, represent Serbia, and the rising sun represents Japan. There are 13 stars around the edge of the medal, which represent the original 13 colonies of the United States. In the upper left of the shield is an ‘AD’, for anno domini, and, in the upper right of the shield is the year ‘1916’. On the left wing of the eagle is the word ‘COPYRIGHT’ and, on the right wing is the word ‘SPICER-SIMPSON’, indicating Theodore Spicer-Simpson, the engraver of the medal. The medal was commissioned by the ‘American Fund for French Wounded’ which provided relief for wounded French soldiers during the war.

Russian medal || This is a Russian commemorative medal. On the front is the likeness of French General Joseph Joffre with, beneath this, the Russian text 'ГЕНЕРАЛИССИММУСЪ ЖОФФРЪ', which translates to English as 'GENERALISSIME JOFFRE'. 'Generalissime' is the French military rank given to Joffre over the Salonika Front, which involved various Allied armies, including the Russians. On the back of the medal is a rising sun and an artillery gun. Above this is the Russian text 'СЛАВА СОЮЗНИКАМЬ 1914 - 1915 - 1916' which translates to English as 'THE GLORY OF THE ALLIANCE 1914 - 1915 - 1916' and, below is the Russian text 'РОССІЯ - ФРАИЦІЯ - АНГЛІЯ - ИТАЛІЯ - БЕЛЬГІЯ - СЕРБІЯ - ЯОПНІЯ', which translates to English as 'RUSSIA - FRANCE - ENGLAND - ITALY - BELGIUM - SERBIA - JAPAN'. The suspension ribbon for this medal is missing.
