A British patriotic postcard. || The Union flag and Royal Standard are shown crossed beneath a crown at the top of this postcard, flanked by the legend ‘Keep the Flag Flying.’. The verse beneath, headed ‘When Daddy Comes Home.’, reads as follows: ‘How long ago is it now, mother / Since Daddy first went away ? / It seems such ages to me dear, / For I’m missing him every day, / And when with bugles and drums they beat, / The soldiers come marching by, / I think of him and I try to cheer, / Yet somehow I want to cry. / Chorus–– When Daddy comes home again / All will be right, / He will be smiling, / Our eyes shining bright ; / I’m thinking how happy / And proud we shall be / When Daddy comes home again / To you and to me. / Where do you say he is now, mother ? / It’s out at the Front, I know, / For the King and this Country called him, / So Daddy just had to go ; / He’s gone where Briton and German meet / To fight on the Belgian shore ; / Though you and I we may want him back, / They are wanting him there much more./ Chorus–– When Daddy comes home again, etc. / When do you think it will be, mother ? / Shall we have long to wait / Till the Germans have learned their lesson / And we hear Dad’s step at the gate ? / The bells will ring and the people shout, / Flag-wave and the streets be gay, / And you and I will go wild with joy / When Daddy comes home that day ! / Chorus–– When Daddy comes home again, etc.’. ‘All rights reserved.’ and ‘R. W. Phipps.’ are printed along the bottom. || || Postcard || A British patriotic postcard
