Edwin Healy was the father of a friend of mine, Edwin Healy Jr. (known as Eamonn Healy when he lived in Wexford). Edwin Sr was born in 1892 in Illinois. He enlisted in April 1917 and served in the Rainbow Battalion, 149th Field Artillery, Battery D. He was called to New Jersey in June 1917 and later that year he served in Fort Sheridan and Long Island. He sailed for France in October 1917, arriving on the 29th of the month. I’ve brought with me an album of newspaper cuttings he kept at the time, presumably sent to him from home. He survived the war and returned to Illinois. He married Florency Mooney with whom he had three sons, Matthew, Edwin Jr and Roland. Edwin Sr died in 1972
