The family on the front therefore visited the Swanswell Studio in order to be photographed. A little girl wearing a white dress and frilly bonnet leans against her mother, who is wearing gloves. The printed information on the back of this photographic postcard informs us that the family of six pictured on the front visited a studio in south-east London in order to sit for their family portrait: ‘Portrait by Ed. Sharp, 221 Westminster Bridge Road, S.E.’, it states. The oldest boy has duplicate versions of his soldier–father’s cap badge and shoulder title pinned to his left lapel as sign of support, which confirm that his father was serving in the Army Service Corps when this photograph was taken. His cap badge indicates that the soldier–father of the three children photographed in a field with, probably, their mother and another female relative, belongs to the South Staffordshire Regiment.
