Postcards from Bernard (Barney) Dargan to his family from France | 1915
3 Items
These postcards were sent by my granduncle, Barney (Bernard) Dargan to his wife from France in 1915. Barney was born c. 1884 in Dublin's inner city (his own family home after he married was 13 Belview Buildings). We're not sure when he enlisted, and he may have worked in Guinness before the war. He was in Burma and India, possibly before the war. I think that he had the rank of Sergeant. All of these postcards are from France, and all are to his wife, Margaret. I think that he carried a leg injury after the war, and he died in 1980. || 23 postcards from Bernard Dargan to his wife Margaret, from France, 1915

16th Irish Division Christmas card 1917 || This is the last card that my uncle William Wilby sent home to his family from the front. He joined the war in 1914 with his brother in law who was killed in action in Gallipolli in 1915. It is a Christmas card for the 16th Irish Division sent in 1917 with a note I haven't had time to write to you all.\n He died in October 1918 in a prisoner of war camp.
