1917 French Army panoramic drawing of a sector in Serbia
This is a panoramic drawing detailing the area from around Bukovo, in what was then Serbia's southern province of Macedonia. It was in a sector that contained the French Army 57th Infantry Division, part of the Armee d'Orient that was commanded by General Maurice Sarrail. Drawn on 13 August 1917, it details towns and other locations, for example, Hill 1248 that had featured in the Battle of Monastir, as well as mountains and various other points of interest.

Verdun 1916-1917, History of a soldier in the 412th Infantry regiment, French Army. Daniel Eugene Cabour , was a medic in the 412Th Infantry regiment during the battle of Verdun. His regiment was deployed in several strategic points, from May 1916 until December 1917. While endless battles and bombings, he fulfilled his duty and more! Highly decorated for the rescue of the wounded under enemy fire, he experienced all the horrors of war, in the hell of Verdun. Through his diaries, letters and Photos, we know where he was deployed during the struggles. From 23 May to 30 October 1916 “ Cote 304” From 26 November 1916 to 12 January 1917 Côte du Poivre ( offensive Battle ) From 08.February 1917 to 31 May 1917 Fort Douaumont, Hardaumont, Fort Vaux , les Chambrettes ( defensive Battle ) From 13.06 1917 to 22.07.1917 Bezonvaux , Bois d’Hassoule , Hardaumont From 14 August to 26 August 1917 Côte du Poivre and the attack of high 344 ( Cote 344) In this attack 860 men of the 412 RI were killed, wounded or missing. From 23 September to 31 december 1917 Côte de l’ Oie , Bois des Caurettes , bois de Cumières , Côte de Talou . As a medic, he was not always at the Front line, and had the opportunity to take some pictures, that I will add to this short story. Many years ago, while on holiday, my brother and I stopped in Verdun , we decided to visit the Verdun Mausoleum . At the entrance of the Mausoleum, sat an old man, obviously a veteran, he was responsible for card files Archives of participants in the Battle of Verdun. He asked us if we had a relative who had fought here. We said yes, the grandfather of my wife, in the 412 infantry Regiment. He gave us a piece of paper with a number and we should go to the mayor with it . Once there and after shown the note, we were led into a large room, there hung many paintings of officers and generals, Regimental flags , also a large diorama of the Battle of Verdun with the position of the French regiments. My grandfather, who was Alsatian and served in the Prussian army as a pioneer, had often told us that his company was stationed from 1916 until 1917 in Verdun, especially against Hill 304 and the fortresses. The idea that our great fathers may have fought against each other, and that their grandchildren married each other today, made us realize how senseless and cruel war is. Daniel Cabour died in 1974 and he was the grandfather of my Wife Marion, he had 4 children and 11 grandchildren. My Grandfather Paul Gug , Feldwebel in a German Pioneer Regiment, died also in 1974 , he had 5 children and 6 grandchildren . || Collection of pictures made in Verdun 1916-1917 by Caporal Daniel Eugene Cabour , Medic in the 412 Th Infantry Regiment
