Feldpostkarten der Familie Schmoll aus Gunzenhausen

Aus dem Nachlass von Maria Schmoll, der Großmutter des Teilnehmers stammt eine Sammlung von Feldpostkarten, die hauptsächlich zwischen ihren Brüdern und den Eltern in Gunzenhausen ausgetauscht wurden. Die Geschwister waren - Friedrich Schmoll, der 1893 geboren wurde und 1917 starb; Leonhard Georg, geboren 1889; Johann Michael Schmoll, geboren 1863, ein Schumacher und Landwirt, starb 1936; sowie Maria Schmoll, verheiratete Donner, geboren 1900, verstorben 1933. Auf den Postkarten sind zahlreiche, idealisierte Darstellungen von Schlachten, des Soldatentodes und von Szenen aus dem Soldatenleben zu finden. Hinzu kommen Postkarten mit Bilder des Einsatzes der Artillerie und der Pioniere, sowie Bilder von Kriegsgefangenen, zumeist unbeschriftete Porträts und Gruppenporträts, der Einheiten in denen die Brüder dienten, sowie Bilder, die aus dem wirtschaftlichen Leben während des Krieges. Einige Postkarten zeigen politische Parolen und viele sind rein dekorativ. Es gibt mehrere Ansichtskarten u.a. von den Orten: Gunzenhausen, Landau (Pfalz), Ingolstadt, Fürth i. B., Truppenübungsplatz Grafenwöhr, Weissenburg i.B., Köln, Lager Hammelburg, Truppenlager Grafenwöhr, Berlin, Augsburg, Herbesthal, Köln, München, , der Hesselberg mit Bismarckturmprojekt (bei Wassertrüdingen), Offenburg, Metz, Brüssel, Baccarat, Ailles, Saint-Mihiel, Ostende, Messines, Grandcourt, St. Julien bei Metz, Longwy, Liège, Jaulny bei Ehiaucourt

Feldpostkarten der Familie Gaus

Der Briefverkehr während des Ersten Weltkriegs fand zwischen allen Familienangehörigen statt. Es liegen noch zahlreiche Karten vor, die Alfred an seine Schwägerin schrieb und einige von Emma Gaus an ihren Mann. Des Weiteren schrieben die Kinder Emma und Else Gaus ihrem Vater, und dieser verfasste vor allem Karten an Freunde und Bekannte. In erster Linie befassen sie sich thematisch mit dem Familienleben zuhause und mit bevorstehenden Urlauben der Verwandten an der Front. Darüberhinaus gibt es noch Postkarten zu besonderen Anlässen, wie Weihnachten oder Neujahr. Die meisten Karten zeigen Bilder oder Fotografien auf ihrer Vorderseite, die vermutlich serienmäßig erschienen sind. Allerdings gibt es auch Ausnahmen, beispielsweise sendet Emma Gaus ihrem Mann Karl eine Karte mit ihr und den Kindern auf der Vorderseite, oder Alfred Gaus an seinen Bruder und seine Schwägerin, mit einer Fotografie von sich auf der Vorderseite. Zudem ist noch bemerkenswert, dass eine Postkarte vom 23. Mai 1909 in der Sammlung erhalten ist. Diese wurde vermutlich von einem ehemaligen Kameraden aus der Vorkriegszeit verfasst. || Bei der Familie Gaus handelt es sich um eine Großfamilie aus Emmendingen. Die Mutter namens Emma lebte während des Ersten Weltkriegs dort mit ihren beiden Kindern Emma und Else. Ihr Mann Karl, dessen Brüder Gerry und Alfred sowie weitere Verwandte und Bekannte kämpften währenddessen im Elsass und in Frankreich.
