A British postcard. || A girl is pictured on the front of this postcard beneath a vignette of a soldier. Above her head is the legend ‘Thinking of You’. The following words can be read beneath her chair: ‘Daddy dear, you’re far away, / The wicked cruel foe fighting, / So just to show I think of you / This tiny note I’m writing.’ According to the printed information on the back of the postcard, it was ‘Printed in England. / No. 310’, and was part of the ‘M.B. Two photographic elements make up the front of this postcard. The main scene shows a boy apparently reading a letter, beneath the words, ‘Ever thinking of my Daddy. / I haven’t written very well / But then you see I’m small, / But this is just a card to tell / You’re not forgot at all.’. Inset to his right is a head-and-shoulders photograph of a British soldier, whose cap badge appears to be that of the Nottinghamshire Yeomanry (Sherwood Rangers), the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, the King’s (Shropshire) Light Infantry, or the Durham Light Infantry. A message is written in an adult hand in black ink on the reverse. It reads: ‘To my dear Daddy, from your loving little son Gilbert, With fondest love & Ever so many kisses’.
