'Ever thinking of my Daddy.'
Two photographic elements make up the front of this postcard. The main scene shows a boy apparently reading a letter, beneath the words, ‘Ever thinking of my Daddy. / I haven’t written very well / But then you see I’m small, / But this is just a card to tell / You’re not forgot at all.’. Inset to his right is a head-and-shoulders photograph of a British soldier, whose cap badge appears to be that of the Nottinghamshire Yeomanry (Sherwood Rangers), the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, the King’s (Shropshire) Light Infantry, or the Durham Light Infantry. A message is written in an adult hand in black ink on the reverse. It reads: ‘To my dear Daddy, from your loving little son Gilbert, With fondest love & Ever so many kisses’. The printed information on the back states: ‘The “Firelight” Series No. 112 All British’.

A British sentimental postcard || A touching bedtime scene is shown on the front of this postcard. A mother sits on a child’s bed, storybook closed for the night, looking down at her small son or daughter as he or she apparently prays fervently. A head-and-shoulders portrait of a British soldier appears to be looking down on them, and a poem, headed ‘For my Daddy.’, can be read to his right: ‘I think of my Daddy / And send him my love / And pray for his safety, / To One up above.’ Umpteen ‘x’s have been written in pencil and black ink on the back of the postcard, along with a message: ‘My Dear Dad this is how I pray each night for which as sic I pray for your safety hoping you come home safely home to Dear Mother and I your Dear little sic daughter Phyllis ?’. The printed text on the reverse includes the following details: ‘All British Production’ and ‘Series No’ the number has been scribbled out.

A British sentimental postcard || A verse has been printed in the top left-hand corner of this postcard. Headed ‘Thoughts of Daddy.’, it reads: ‘I think of you dear Daddy / Through all the long, long days, / And for your quick & safe return / Your little Girlie prays.’. Inset to the right is a head-and-shoulders portrait of an absorbed-looking British soldier. In the main scene below, the soldier’s wife sits by a table on which stands a photograph. She holds her mending in her hands, but is staring into space, towards the soldier’s photograph. Their daughter sits on the floor, apparently reading to the doll that she is cradling.
