There are many elements to the front of this postcard. At the top are the flags of Russia, Japan, Belgium, France and Great Britain. Shaking hands can be seen below the flag of Belgium, surrounded by roses and forget-me-nots. Below is a naval scene, with the outline of the British Isles on the left and of France and Germany on the right. Roses and violets frame the verse below. The verse is headed ‘Love and Fond Kisses / to / Dear Dad from Home.’. It reads, ‘We’re sending our thoughts to You, Dear / Over the sea and the foam / To say you are not forgotten / By those you have left at home; / To say we are True and Loving / And longing to see you, Dear, / Still hoping you’re well and Happy, / And wishing that you were near.’. The signature below says ‘Terry’. ‘Beagles’ Postcards’ and ‘Copyright’ appear in the bottom left- and right-hand corners. The printed text on the reverse states ‘Beagles’ Postcards’, ‘Best in the World.’, ‘J. BEAGLES & CO., Ltd., E.C., Printers and Publishers.’, ‘Printed in England.’, and ‘Series No. 118D.’.

A British sentimental postcard || The information printed on the reverse of this postcard tells us that it was ‘Printed in England. No. 125G’ by ‘J. BEAGLES & CO., LTD., E.C., Printers and Publishers.’. The logo also states ‘BEAGLES’ POST CARDS / BEST IN THE WORLD.’. Depicted on the front is a pair of clasped hands framed by a horseshoe, along with cascades of forget-me-nots. The name of the artist who created the scene on the front of this postcard – Reg Maurice – can be seen above the verse at the bottom. Entitled ‘To Dear Daddy with lots of Fondest Love.’, the main part of the postcard depicts a small girl standing on a toy cart in order to post a letter. Inset above is a head-and-shoulders portrait of a British soldier. The verse beneath her reads: ‘Such a lot to do dear daddy, / Play and lessons too. / But I’m leaving all at present / To send my love to you.’.
