A British soldier's family of five.

This photograph shows three army children with their soldier–father and their bespectacled mother, who is wearing a distinctive, patterned blouse and whose wedding ring is visible on her ring finger. Neither the family nor the photographer’s studio in which they posed for their picture is identified on the reverse of the photographic postcard.

A British soldier's family of five.

1 Item

A real photographic postcard. || Although we don’t know where these three children and their parents were photographed, or their names, we can discern a little about their soldier–father from two visual clues. Firstly, the two stripes on his left sleeve tell us that he was a corporal when this photograph was taken. And, secondly, the badge on the seated boy’s left lapel appears to be that of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, suggesting that this was the unit in which his father was serving. || || Photograph || A photograph of a British soldier's family.

The backdrop suggests that this photograph of three girls and their parents was taken in a photographer’s studio, but there are no written details to indicate where it was, or the family’s name(s). Nor does the soldier–father’s uniform offer any clues as to his unit. All of the family have well-worn boots on. || A photograph of a British soldier's family of five || || Photograph || A photograph of a British soldier's family of five

A British soldier's family of three.

Flanked by her parents, the small girl at the centre of this family photograph rests her hand on her soldier–father’s arm for support. The rings on her mother’s wedding finger are prominent, but it is impossible to make out any distinguishing details of her father’s shoulder title. There is nothing on the reverse to tell us who this little family is, or where the photograph was taken. || A photograph of a British soldier's family. || || A photograph of a British soldier's family of three. || Photograph
