A mother and child photographed in Leeds.

The photographer’s name and address is printed on the back of this photographic postcard: ‘Harrison’s Studio, 68 Meadow Road, Leeds in Yorkshire’. The subjects are a woman and her child. The mother’s wedding ring is clearly visible, as are the two brooches that she wears: a cameo and, beneath it, a sweetheart brooch. The sweetheart brooch takes the form of a rifle, upon which is superimposed the badge of the regiment in which her husband was presumably serving. The details of the badge are indistinct, but the shape points to a crown-surmounted rose of Yorkshire, which may indicate the badge of the Yorkshire Dragoons (Queen’s Own).

A British soldier's family photographed in Leeds

1 Item

We know that the family of three pictured on the front of this real photographic postcard visited the Lonnergan photographic studio on Woodsley Road, Leeds Yorkshire, for their group portrait, because the studio’s details have been stamped in the bottom right-hand corner. Although aspects of the little girl and her mother’s clothes and jewellery are notable, there is nothing to identify either the family or the soldier–father’s unit on either the front or back of the photograph. || A real photographic postcard || || A photograph of a British soldier and his family photographed in Leeds || Photograph

A real photographic postcard || Partially stamped on the back of this real photographic postcard is the name and address of the photographic studio that produced it: ‘Modern Photo Co., 57, Castle St, Bristol’. On the front, a little girl is pictured standing next to her mother. Her soldier–father stands alongside them. He has two overseas service stripes on his lower right-hand sleeve (which dates this photograph to 1918), signifying that he had served in the army for two years overseas. || || A photograph of a British soldier and his family || Front || Photograph || Bristol
