Medal of Private John Kelly

John Montague Kelly was my Grand Uncle. He was born at Porte, Ruan, Co. Clare in Ireland and was baptised on the 23rd of July 1893. His father, Jeremiah, died on the 10th of July 1893 and John was born on the day of his funeral, probably the 12th or 13th of July. He was a Private in the Leinster Regiment (Number 6045) and served in Egypt during WWI. He survived the War and died on the 5th of July 1955. He was buried in Doolin. His campaign medal is currently on display in the Clare Museum in Ennis. My Grandmother said John may have been shellshocked after he returned and may have been affected by it for the rest of his life. He returned to Ireland after the War. He was shot the day Ruan barracks were taken by the IRA and arrested by the Black and Tans at one point.
