This is a true story that no one knows. And I want to build it with your help. My grandpa Giuliano (born in Cittaducale -close to Rieti, central Italy- in 1893, died in 1971) and his brother Pietro (also born in Cittaducale in 1896, died somewhere on Carso battlefields in 1917) were the age of my sons when they were enrolled in Bersaglieri troops of Italian Army, respectively in the VIII and XI Bataillon. My grandpa, great hands to take care of his dear grandson, great heart to tell any story but his war, never told much about his detention as prisoner somewhere in Austria or Germany. And I want to to know it with your help. I have his picture and I'm only aware his was fighting on Drei Zinnen (Tre Cime di Lavaredo) on the Dolomites before he was wounded and captured. Nothing else but I start from here. Personalmente, senza retorica né enfasi e a puro titolo affettivo, sto ricostruendo la storia del mio nonno paterno Giuliano, sergente maggiore probabilmente nel VIII Rgt. Bersaglieri, nato nel 1893 a Cittaducale (allora provincia dell'Aquila, ora Rieti), ferito probabilmente sulle Tre Cime di Lavaredo, fatto prigioniero e trasferito in Germania o Austria in data e luogo sconosciuti, e di suo fratello Pietro, di tre anni più giovane di lui, appartenente all'XI Rgt. Bersaglieri, che morì per le ferite riportate in combattimento il 13/4/17 (secondo quanto riportato dall'Albo d'Oro) forse, da mie ricostruzioni preliminari, sul Carso nei pressi della località denominata quota 144. Condivido qui la foto di mio nonno con il retro parzialmente leggibile.
