He married Margaret Sharp and had a son, John Thomas Sharp (known as Jack) but was married only a year before leaving for the war. He was killed on active service in France serving with the 509 Field Company of the Royal Engineers. His army records indicate his death on the 5th or 6th of July 1917, later confirmed as 5th July. He was buried at the Philosophe British Cemetery at Mazingarbe, France. Army number: 180097 Rank: Sapper
