Ernest Wilson

Ernest Wilson was a schoolteacher before the outbreak of war. He joined the Liverpool Scottish Regiment. His mother was Scottish. He was gassed, which had long term effects on his health. After the war he turned his back on teaching and became a pay clerk at a coal mine near Wigan. Ernest died in 1945.

William Wilson

William Wilson was born in 1887 in Preston and joined the Loyal Lancashire Regiment. He served in France and was wounded at Vendresse in September 1914. A telegram was sent to his wife saying he had been seriously wounded and he was hospitalised in Portsmouth then moved to Hyde in Cheshire. He was discharged from the army and served as a clerk from January 1915 until November 1917 then in the Military Transport Police from until April 1919. He was then discharged from both posts. He had a daughter whom he named Vendresse who died at three months old. Photograph of 2 people: Mu uncle Robert Henry Wilson is on the left; the other person is unknown to me. || My uncle Robert Henry Wilson was the eldest of 14 children who joined the Enniskillen Fusilliers at aged 16 and was wounded at Gallipoli. He was evacuated to a hospital in Alexandria, Egypt where he died and was buried there.
