A British soldier and his family
The small child sitting on the table on the right of this photograph must have moved while it was being taken because her face is a little blurry. Her soldier–father stands behind her, while her mother sits on the left, holding what appears to be a newspaper. No information is given on either the front or back of this real photographic postcard to help us identify either the family or the photographic studio that produced their portrait.

This larger-than-postcard-sized photograph has been glued to the centre of a brown-toned cardboard mount (cropped out here) bearing the details of the photographic studio that produced it: ‘USA STUDIOS’, ‘London W & Provincial Branches’. The solemn-looking family pictured comprises two young girls, dressed alike in white, with ribbons in their hair, their mother and their soldier–father. || A photograph || || Photograph || A photograph of a British soldier and his family

A real photographic postcard || This real photographic postcard shows six children, who have been photographed with their parents in a garden setting. The oldest girl has been given the central seat, while three of her younger siblings have lined up alongside her and their parents. Their mother holds a baby, and their soldier–father, a toddler. The outline of his cap badge resembles that of the Essex Regiment. There is nothing on either the front or back of this family photograph to indicate where it was taken, or the family’s identity. || || A photograph of a British soldier and his family || Photograph

There is no indication on the front or reverse of the postcard of their identities, or of the photographer who produced this al-fresco family portrait. The only notable feature is the ‘K LTD’ logo in the stamp box on the reverse. || || A British soldier and his family photographed in a garden || Photograph || Front
