British War Medal and Victory Medal of Denis T. Hayes, Honourable Artillery Company. His service dates were 03/10/1916 - 09/02/1919. He served in Somme and Passendale (Third Battle of Ypres, Western Front July to November 1917)and in the Italian Expeditionary Force as an interpreter. The British War Medal and the Victory Medal (sometimes known as the Inter-Allied Victory Medal) were both desigend by William McMillan (1887 - 1977). The silver British War Medal was struck by the Royal Mint; the bronze Victory Medal (a copper medal lacquered in bronze) was manufactured in Woolwich Arsenal by Wrigth & Son.
