Adventures of runaway Ernest George
New Testament with name inside see flyleaf
Hymn book belonging to father during WW1
My father Ernest John George was born in 1887 in Marylebone, London, but he ran away to Wales when he was a young boy. The family believe he joined the Army before the First World War, and was a private - no. 9184 - in the 2nd Welsh Regiment. According to the family, he was taken prisoner during the war, but took the colonel's horse to escape. Not much more is known about the escaping horse, but the story was passed down through the family. My father refused to elaborate.
My father did have this Field Service Prayer book and New Testament and Common Prayers and Hymns, which was passed on from his sister. The prayer book may not be connected as Llewellyn is written inside, so may have been given or passed on.
A war pension was received when mother applied many years later. We also had replacement medals, including the 1914 Star, War and Victory medal.
