A British patriotic postcard
A A Nash, whose name can be seen on the right, was responsible for the scene on the front of this postcard, which portrays a boy dressed as a British soldier arm in arm with two girls. The caption below is written in both English and French: ‘One of Ours.’ And ‘Un des nôtres.’. The printed text on the reverse states, ‘Inter-Art Co., Florence House, Barnes, London, S.W. / “ARTISTIQUE” Series. No. 1671. / British Manufacture Throughout.’. The postcard has been franked: ‘ARMY POS? S.58 29 JU 17’. A pencilled hand has written ‘On active Service’ across the top, and has addressed the postcard to ‘Miss Muriel Whitehouse / Sunningdale / Woodford Rd / Leytonstone / London / E.11’. The message reads: ‘My dear Muriel / The little girl in blue on the other side, is just how you used to be when you were about 5 years old. You ask mother if it is not so. Why don’t you send me a post card? Just try there’s a dear. With love and kisses from your Daddy xxxxxxxxxxxx’.
