‘I never Forget You | Daddy’
‘I never Forget You, Daddy’, is the title of this postcard, which depicts a boy gazing intently at a photograph of a British army officer. The verse below reads, ‘Sometimes when I’m on my lonesome, I could a’most fink I saw / My own Daddy, talking to me, ’stead of fighting in the war ; / P’raps it’s what my Mum calls day-dreams––says she sees him now and then, / Wish I wasn’t just a-dreaming, and my Dad was here again.’. ‘Madeleine St. Clair.’ And ‘Bamforth copyright’ have been printed across the bottom. The typeset details on the reverse state ‘Bamforth & Co., Ltd., Publishers Holmfirth (England) and New York / ‘Patriot’ Series No. 1095 Printed in England.’. The postcard has been franked ‘EPSOM in Surrey 7.15 PM 19 MAR 1916’. It has been addressed in black ink to ‘Master R. W. A. G. Gibbons / Croxton / Brocklesby / Lincs’. Dated ’19.3.16.’., the message reads, ‘My Darling Geo, What do you think of this card, is that what you do? Love and Kisses from your affect Daddy. xx’.

A child is shown praying on the front of this photographic postcard, beneath an inset portrait of a soldier. Printed to the soldier’s left is the following verse: ‘Thoughts of Daddy. / I think of you dear Daddy, / Through all the long, long days, / And for your quick and safe return / Your little Girlie prays.’. A British sentimental and patriotic postcard || A boy is depicted on the front of this postcard, hands in his pockets as he gazes at a framed photograph of a British soldier hanging on the wall. Entitled ‘I Loves my Dad’, the verse below reads, ‘Dat’s my Daddy’s picture, an’ I’m feeling awful proud, / ’Cos my Dad’s a soldier, where the guns are firing loud ; / Guess he’s awful brave an’ fine, an’ fights the whole long day, / So’s to keep us safe an’ sound, an’ drive all harm away.’. ‘Madeleine St Clair’, the name of the verse’s composer, appears at the bottom.
