'Khaki: this colour does not run!'
Artist Frederick Spurgin signed his name to the right of the boy that he portrayed wearing a British soldier’s uniform and carrying a rifle mounted with a bayonet. The postcard is headed ‘KHAKI’; the caption below reads, ‘THIS COLOUR DOES NOT RUN!’ The printed details on the reverse include ‘Inter-Art Co., Red Lion Square, London, W. C. / “KHAKI” Series. No. 1053. British Manufacture’. Postally used, the postcard has been franked ‘FOLKESTONE 230 PM 10 JAN 1916’. It has been addressed in black ink to ‘Master Blunt / 45 St Augustine’s Avenue / S. Croydon’. The message reads, ‘how do you like this of your soldier ? father / Xmas.’.
