Pictured on the front of this real photographic postcard is a British soldier wearing khaki drill (KD), seated at a table, looking directly at the photographer. Inset in the top right-hand corner is a photograph of his wife and child. Embossed across the bottom left-hand corner is the partially legible name of the studio that produced this photograph: ‘Britain ? Studio / Cairo in Egypt’. ‘Taken Aug 21st 1918’ has been scrawled across the back of the photograph in black ink. There is also a pencilled message dated ‘8/9/18’ and ‘Sunday Sept. 8th 1918’. It reads, ‘Dear Sister Nora / at last I am sending you my photo which I had taken at Cairo when I was on furlough. Pleased to say that I am still in the very best of health could not wish to feel better & I hope this finds yourself Walter & all the same I hope he his sic still in England. The last letter I received from Ruth was dated Aug 8th & pleased to hear they were all well at that time. Sorry to say I haven’t heard from you for a long time perhaps you have wrote sic & it asn’t sic turned up. Please give my best wishes to Uncle & Aunt. Please excuse short letter this time, will drop you another line soon.
