A British comic patriotic postcard. || Artist Donald McGill signed his name under the shadow cast by the recruiting sergeant that he depicted facing a ragtag trio of boys on the front of this postcard. The caption beneath them reads: ‘WE WANT TO BE OUT AT THE FRONT TOO !’, with an approximate French translation printed below that: ‘Nous venons pour nous engager!’ (‘We have come to enlist!’). This postcard seems to be the second of a sequential pair, the first being entitled ‘FIRST AID’, while this one is headed ‘FIT AGAIN.’. Like the first postcard, this portrays a girl dressed as a nurse, and a boy wearing a British army officer’s uniform. The pair is flanking a dog, whose bandage the ‘nurse’ is in the process of removing.
