Pair of French-Serbian trench art crosses

9 Items

Pair of decorative, trench art crosses. || This is a pair of decorative French-made, trench art crosses, likely made in the vicinity of the Salonika Front. They are in the form of a pair of 37MM shell casings with, on top of each, a cruciform pair of bullets. One shell casing has the word 'SERBIE', and the other has 'MACEDOINE'. At the time, Macedonia was a southern province of Serbia. The February 2015, 'AVE' headstamping on one of the bullets indicates that it was manufactured by Cartoucherie de Valence - Cartridge Factory of Valence - in the French commune of Bourg-les-Valence, and the January 1916, 'ATE' headstamping on the other bullet indicates that is was manufactured by Atelier de Fabrication de Toulouse - Manufacturing Workshop of Toulouse - in the French city of Toulouse.
