'For my Daddy.'
A British sentimental postcard
A touching bedtime scene is shown on the front of this postcard. A mother sits on a child’s bed, storybook closed for the night, looking down at her small son or daughter as he or she apparently prays fervently. A head-and-shoulders portrait of a British soldier appears to be looking down on them, and a poem, headed ‘For my Daddy.’, can be read to his right: ‘I think of my Daddy / And send him my love / And pray for his safety, / To One up above.’
Umpteen ‘x’s have been written in pencil and black ink on the back of the postcard, along with a message: ‘My Dear Dad this is how I pray each night for which as sic I pray for your safety hoping you come home safely home to Dear Mother and I your Dear little sic daughter Phyllis ?’. The printed text on the reverse includes the following details: ‘All British Production’ and ‘Series No’ the number has been scribbled out.

A prayer for my dear Daddy'
1 Item
‘A Prayer for my dear Daddy’ is the title of the poem printed above the kneeling child pictured on this postcard. It reads, ‘Daddy darling I am thinking, / Of dear Father far away, / And that you are free from danger, / Night and Morn for you I pray. / Though from all of us you’re parted, / Still I pray where ’er you be, / That God will keep you from all danger, / And bring you safely back to me.’ The only potentially identifying information regarding its publisher printed on the back of this postcard is, ‘(117) Entirely British Manufacture’. || A British postcard. || || Postcard || A British postcard.

A British real photographic postcard || The central figure of this posed scene is a bespectacled mother, who is steadying the small child seated on the table beside her. The child is in turn holding a photograph whose subject is a British soldier. His or her older sister stands behind their mother, gazing at the photograph. ‘My Daddy’ has been inscribed along the bottom. There is nothing on the reverse of this real photographic postcard to identify the family, or the photographic studio in which they are pictured. || || Front || A British real photographic postcard
'Waiting for Daddy.'

A small boy has been depicted solemnly standing to attention on the front of this postcard against a bright-red background. He wears a tropical topi, or pith helmet, and holds an unsheathed sword in one hand and a Union flag in the other. The caption beneath him reads, ‘WAITING FOR DADDY. / I MUST TAKE CARE OF MUMMY NOW!’. The artist’s name – Lawson Wood – can be seen level with the boy’s knees, on the left; ‘No. 2’ has been printed in the bottom right-hand corner. The printed information on the reverse tells us that it is part of the ‘“ST CLAIR” WAR SERIES’, ‘Printed in Great Britain’, and ‘Printed and Published by DOBSON, MOLLE & CO. LTD., Edinburgh and London’. Postally used, the postmark indicates that it was mailed in September 1915. The name and address of the recipient have been handwritten in violet ink: ‘Miss Sanger, / c/o Mrs Thos. Ellis, / Summer Hill, / Warbleton. Sussex.’. The message reads, ‘My dear Ena, / Many thanks for your postcard. Glad you are enjoying yourself & having nice weather. I don’t suppose you will want to come home will you. How do you like the little kitten. I expect you like being in the hayfield. Give my love to all & kiss the babies for me. With love & kisses from Ella.’. || A sentimental/patriotic British postcard || || Postcard || A British postcard entitled 'Waiting for Daddy.'.
