Family photograph of three brothers. || William Hayes, thought to have been a gunner in the RFC, is pictured with his brothers home on leave in Eccles, Manchester. He is 27, his brother Frederik 25 and James 21. James has just been discharged wounded.

William Wilson was born in 1887 in Preston and joined the Loyal Lancashire Regiment. He served in France and was wounded at Vendresse in September 1914. A telegram was sent to his wife saying he had been seriously wounded and he was hospitalised in Portsmouth then moved to Hyde in Cheshire. He was discharged from the army and served as a clerk from January 1915 until November 1917 then in the Military Transport Police from until April 1919. He was then discharged from both posts. He had a daughter whom he named Vendresse who died at three months old.
