Medals | two photographs and certificate of discharge for Michael Gleeson

These items belonged to my dad, Michael Gleeson. He was a member of the Royal Munster Fusiliers and served in both World Wars. I have a plaque with several medals pinned to it, including some from World War 2. One is a 1914 star which means that he joined up immediately at the outbreak of war. He probably served at the Battle of Mons. He spent time in a prisoner of war camp in France and one of the photographs is from that time.

Certificate of discharge for Colin Thomas Methven, service number 10327, R.F.C. (Royal Flying Corps). He enlisted in Kilkenny on 18 October 1915 and was officially discharged on 19 March 1918. He is described as having a 'fresh complexion', grey eyes and brown hair'. Colin lost his left hand and eye and suffered severe damage to his left ear in a flying accident - his discharge papers refer to this.

Certificate of discharge for James Roarty | first page

1 Item

Certificate of discharge for James Roarty, first page. The discharge papers have a stamp stating that he was discharged in consequence of being ‘no longer physically fit for war service’. The stamp is so faint it will not be picked up in the accompanying image of the discharge papers.
