Emil Ranzenhofer pencil sketch of Salih Brkic
Emil Ranzenhofer (1864-1930) was a WWI artist for the Austro-Hungarian Empire (KuK) volunteering for the KPQ (Kriegspressquartier) in September of 1915. In the later years of WWI, he was in Bosnia/Herzegovina and sketched many soldiers and war scenes. This is an example of a pencil sketch he did of Salih Brkic. Emil has signed his name Ranzenhofer to the right of the sketch with the date of 1917. Under the sketch, Salih Brkic has signed his name and identified his military attachment to the Bosnia/Herzegovina (B.H.) 10E troops.

Grandfather Emil Ranzenhofer (1864-1930) was a WWI artist for the Austro-Hungarian Empire (KuK) volunteering for the KPQ (Kriegspressquartier) in September of 1915. In the later years of WWI, he was in Bosnia/Herzegovina and sketched many soldiers and war scenes. This is an example of a pencil sketch he did of Salih Brkic. Emil has signed his name Ranzenhofer to the right of the sketch with the date of 1917. Under the sketch, Salih Brkic has signed his name and identified his military attachment to the Bosnia/Herzegovina (B.H.) 10E troops (K.u.k. bosnisch-hercegovinische Infanterie Regiment Nr. 10) Coincidentally, a man with the same name and likeness is a TV reporter in Bosnia. Could be a relative, maybe a grandson! This sketch from the Bosnia/Herzegovina area is one of many WWI sketches inherited by the family. Our guess is that Emil was in the Bosnia/Herzegovina area when WWI ended and he just gathered up his unsubmitted artwork, went home, and left them boxed up. The Austro-Hungarian Empire no longer needed his artwork to promote its war effort. || Pencil drawing of Salih Brkic
