My grandfather's Austrian WW1 death certificate
Photocopy of death certificate of my grandfather who was killed aged 30 as a rifleman in the Austro-Hungarian field artillery. His birthplace is given as Budapest, I know nothing about his Hungarian background.

This teapot was presented to my Grandfather by his parish - Holme East Waver in Cumberland - in recognition of his service in the First World War; during which he served with three regiments and was a prisoner of war. || My Grandfather, William Gate, was the son of a tenant farmer at Pow Hill in Cumberland. Although he was originally exempt from conscription as a land worker he was eventually drafted in 1916, and served with three regiments starting with the Royal Lancashires.
