This teapot was presented to my Grandfather by his parish - Holme East Waver in Cumberland - in recognition of his service in the First World War; during which he served with three regiments and was a prisoner of war. || My Grandfather, William Gate, was the son of a tenant farmer at Pow Hill in Cumberland. Although he was originally exempt from conscription as a land worker he was eventually drafted in 1916, and served with three regiments starting with the Royal Lancashires. Edward Terrance Tormey was 'Called Up' on 10th. July 1917. His Attestation was taken by Captain B.B. Irwin and this is a copy of that Attestation.

This photograph was taken by grand father Bertram's grand son, who was also named Bertram.(My brother) These medals are hanging proudly in their frame on the wall.
