IOANNIS PYROVOLAKIS'S WAR DIARY

Frederick Pritchard's war diary

105 Items

Fred Pritchard served with the Worcestershire Regiment from 20th July 1916 to 5th April 1917. His diary covers his training and his first year of service before wounding (which is asusmed to be 7th June 1916, as this is the date given for the story). His diary and pocket gospel saved his life, as both show bullet damage (and presumably deflected it or stopped it penetrating further). The incident in which they did so occurred outside St Quentin. || His diary; his Gospel of St John; a photo of Fred in which he is standing on the right. His discharge card, his leather wallet, and a postcard/presscutting described as being of the Virgin on the Church (?)

Our Great Grandfather's War Diary

7 Items

Images of war diary. || We recently discovered our Great Gandfather's typed War diary from Ypres. It outlines some significant events he witnessed first hand including the French-Algerian troops being helped back to the town having suffered the first gas attack of WW1. He was later wounded whilst he and a friend were taking shots at the German lines with a pair of Officer's filed glasses they found. His account of their subsequent escape is harrowing in its matter of fact approach to their unlikely success at escaping. || || Algerian gas attack account and front line fighting || War Diary || Western Front || Ypres Ieper || Diary || Acount of WW1 Ypres, 1916. Algerian's on the receiving end of the first German gas attack. Subsequent sniping resulted in him bring shelled and a grim account of his escape under fire is quite harrowing in its frankness.
