'I'd love to!'
A British sentimental postcard.
The name of the artist responsible for this pictorial exhortation to join the army is written to the right of the Union-flag-waving girl: ‘Agnes Richardson’, while the word ‘Oilette’ to her left indicates that the postcard is part of the ‘Oilette’ series. Further written details on the front of the postcard are part of the illustrated story: ‘Recruits for H. M. Army’ and ‘Recruiting’.
The printed details on the back of the postcard are as follows: ‘Tuck’s Post Card’; ‘Copyright London / “WE CAN ALL HELP!”’; ‘Raphael Tuck & Sons “OILETTE” Postcard No. 8740’; ‘ART PUBLISHERS TO THEIR MAJESTIES THE KING AND QUEEN’; ‘Printed in England’; and ‘By appointment’ beneath the royal coat of arms.
There is a handwritten message, too: ‘29-3-17 / Dear Tets ?. I liked the P.C. very much. How are you all blowing? I am in the Pink. Vincent sends his kindest regards to you both. Shall be coming on Thursday as arranged. Tell you all news when I come. Ada Gwen & I went for some moss sic yesterday & after Ada & I went to the Cinama sic, it was very good.
