Mark Clemons, grandfather of the contributor, served in the Cheshire Regiment. He enlisted in 1903 and first served in India. He was taken Prisoner of War on 29th August 1914, so was one of the first British Prisoners of War. He spent 4 years in a POW camp in Germany.
Ernest Walker, grandfather of the contributors husband, was in the Staffordshire Regiment and served in Egypt during WWI.

3 Photographs of Ernest 2 Medals || Ernest Duesbery was in Royal Marines (part of the Royal Naval Division) in HMS Hood, and served on land as well as at sea. He was wounded four times, possibly in France, but survived the war and became a master stonemason in Goole. See also the entry for his brother John (BL83). This includes a newspaper article about Ernest, circa September 1917, headed A.B.
