A soldier's family photographed in south London

1 Item

A real photographic postcard || This photograph shows the ravages of time, which are especially visible in the face of the mother of the boy who stands alongside his seated soldier–father. The soldier holds a swagger stick, and a wedding ring is visible on the ring finger of his left hand. Further details of his uniform are a white lanyard, but his cap badge and shoulder title are too indistinct to enable us to hazard an identification. The printed information on the reverse of this real photographic postcard tells us that it was produced by ‘Jno. Emberson, Wimbledon, Surbiton & Tooting’. || || A photograph of a British soldier and his family. || Photograph

The printed text on the back on this real photographic postcard states, ‘Photo from the Curzon Studios / 115 The Grove, Stratford, E. / 224 High Road, Kilburn, N.W. / 19 Hill Street, Richmond, S.W.’. The family that was photographed in one of these London studios comprises two girls and their parents. The older girl’s hand rests on her soldier–father’s shoulder. His shoulder title is visible, but the details are unclear. || A real photographic postcard || || A British soldier and his family photographed in London || Front || Photograph

A soldier's family photographed in West London

1 Item

This family portrait has been mounted on a beige-coloured card on which is printed the name and address of the photographic studio that produced it: ‘Chas. H. Skillman, 156, Uxbridge Rd., London, W. possibly Ealing’. The family comprises a soldier–father and his wife, who is holding a baby dressed in a christening gown. Standing between his parents, his arm linked with his father’s, is the baby’s older brother, whose sister perches on the arm of their father’s chair. Their soldier–father’s uniform is notable for its black buttons. || A studio photograph || || Photograph || A studio portrait of a British soldier and his family
