A British soldier and his family.
Posed against an ornate backdrop, a small boy and his parents appear to be looking warily at the viewer. It is notable that the boy’s soldier–father is wearing a white lanyard and a well-worn uniform. This real photographic postcard is slightly damaged, and has no written details giving us the family members’ names or that of the photographic studio that produced this image.

A real photographic postcard || This unknown family was photographed in an unnamed photographic studio. Three children, all dressed in white, surround their mother, who is seated on an ornate chair. Behind them stands their soldier father, holding a swagger stick in his right hand. The details of his cap badge are unclear. || || A British soldier's family || Front || Photograph

A photograph of a British soldier and his family || This photograph was presented on a card mount with an oval stamp on the front proclaiming ‘From the Studios of Dura Ltd.’ (cropped out here). A family of four gazes out at the viewer: a mother holding a baby on her lap, an older boy perched on a table, and, behind him, his soldier–father. Notable details are the cross around the mother’s neck; the leather shoes worn by both children; and the cap badge adorning the soldier’s cap on the table, which appears to be that of the Herefordshire Regiment. There is also a badge on the soldier–father’s lower left-hand sleeve, but the details are difficult to make out. || || Photograph || A British soldier and his family

The name of the photographer’s studio that the pictured family of three visited in order to be photographed does not appear anywhere on this real photographic postcard. On the front, a young girl is shown with her parents. Her white outfit contrasts strikingly with her mother’s dark gown. Her left hand rests on the knee of her soldier–father, who is perched on the arm of the chair in which her mother is sitting. No distinguishing features are visible on his uniform. || A real photographic postcard || || A photograph of a British soldier and his family. || Photograph
