A British soldier's family photographed in Trowbridge
Pictured on the front of this real photographic postcard are a young soldier, his wife and their daughter. It is difficult to discern the details of the soldier’s visible shoulder title, but it may read ‘RE’ (Royal Engineers). Similarly, the centre of his wife’s choker may be a Royal Engineers’ cap badge. Embossed across the bottom right-hand corner are the details of the photographer in whose studio the family was photographed: ‘Clarence Vearncombe / Trowbridge in Wiltshire’.

A British soldier's family photographed in Leeds

We know that the family of three pictured on the front of this real photographic postcard visited the Lonnergan photographic studio on Woodsley Road, Leeds Yorkshire, for their group portrait, because the studio’s details have been stamped in the bottom right-hand corner. Although aspects of the little girl and her mother’s clothes and jewellery are notable, there is nothing to identify either the family or the soldier–father’s unit on either the front or back of the photograph. || A real photographic postcard || || A photograph of a British soldier and his family photographed in Leeds || Photograph

There is nothing on the reverse of this real photographic postcard to indicate who the family may be. Imprinted across the bottom right-hand corner, however, are the details of the Nottinghamshire photographic studio that they visited to commemorate the baby’s christening: ‘Richard’s, King’s Road, Newark’. His or her soldier–father wears an Imperial Service badge above his right-hand breast pocket, which tells us that he is a Territorial soldier who had volunteered after 1912 and before 30 September 1914 to serve overseas. || A real photographic postcard || || A real photographic postcard || Photograph
A British soldier's family photographed in Peterborough

Stamped across the bottom of this real photographic postcard are the details of the photographer’s studio that produced it: ‘New Studios Ltd / Long Causeway, / Peterborough.’, while ‘. PIPER’ has been written in white in the bottom right-hand corner. The family who visited this studio in order to be photographed comprises a small boy, his mother and his soldier–father. The crossed muskets on the latter’s lower left-hand sleeve signal his skill as a marksman, while his cap badge appears to be that of the Norfolk Regiment. || A real photographic postcard || || Photograph || A photograph of a British soldier and his family.
