This is an inscribed silver cigarette case given to my grandfather, Gunner Walter J Barber RHA, immediately after the war by his commanding officer, Lieutenant Freddie Vince in appreciation for his support in a tricky situation during the withdrawal from the Passchendaele Salient in April 1918.
